Wallboxes with load management

Charging station parking lot

In an apartment building, duplex or underground garage, there are often several charging spaces next to each other. Sophisticated load management is necessary to ensure that all vehicles are supplied according to demand.

Electric cars need to be charged regularly at charging stations, usually at a wallbox at home. However, the electricity resources at a charging station are sometimes limited. Particularly in conurbations, several electric cars often have to be charged at the same time during peak times. However, as the amount of electricity is limited, in extreme cases new cars cannot be charged immediately. This is precisely when load management comes into play: it distributes the available electricity quota among the e-cars to be charged in the best possible way. If there are only a few cars at the charging station, charging takes place at maximum power. As soon as more electric cars arrive, the management system intervenes and distributes the charging current according to demand so that all electric cars can be charged at the same time. The only difference is that it takes a little longer if many cars are plugged in at the same time. Incidentally, load management works equally well on public roads, in underground car parks or on company premises.

Load management: there are these differences

First of all, a distinction must be made between static and dynamic load management:

Static load management

Static load management treats all e-cars to be charged in the same way and charges each vehicle with the same charging power across the board.

Dynamic load management

Dynamic load management adapts to the amount of electricity available and even includes other large consumers in the household.

As soon as individual vehicles are unplugged or fully charged, the charging power of the other electric cars increases automatically and adapts to the required power: Cars with a low battery level are charged with higher power than vehicles with a relatively full battery.

Conclusion

If several cars are charged at the same time, wallboxes with integrated charging management are required. The e-mobilio store offers a large selection of charging stations with static or local dynamic charging management.
