Wallboxes for the free-standing parking space

E-car free-standing parking space

With our wallbox comparison, you can find exactly the right charging station for your parking space.

Charging an electric car for regular use makes the installation of a private wallbox indispensable in the long term; public charging options are often not sufficient here. E-mobility can only be optimally integrated into everyday life with your own charging station at the parking space. However, there are a few things to consider when choosing the right wallbox for your parking situation. For example, a charging station in a free-standing parking space must meet different requirements than a wallbox in a garage or underground car park. If you need to charge your electric car outside, features such as cable length, base availability, dust and water protection or access protection are therefore particularly important for the installation.

Which wallbox is best suited for a free-standing parking space?

Two devices that are ideally equipped for outdoor use are the myEnergi zappi V2 and the Heidelberg Wallbox Home Eco. Here, resistance to weather conditions and protection against "electricity thieves" are the top priorities. The robustness of the two wallboxes is demonstrated, for example, by their high protection classes. While the Zappi charging station with IP65 is not only dustproof, but also impervious to water jets, the IP54 protection class protects the Wallbox Home Eco from dust in damaging quantities and from heavy water spray. To prevent unauthorized access to the charging device, both wallboxes also offer various protection mechanisms: the myenergi Zappi can only be used with a PIN, while the Heidelberg Wallbox Home Eco is optionally protected against unauthorized access via an external switch with a potential-free contact using RFID or a key. Because free-standing parking spaces often do not allow wall mounting of a charging station, or only to a limited extent, the wallbox should ideally be able to be mounted on a stand. The myEnergi Zappi V2 can be mounted on the wall or fixed to a stand: Thanks to its robust steel base, the charging station defies all eventualities. And the integrated charging cables on both wallboxes with lengths between 5 and 7.5 m also make charging with your own charging station much easier. In addition, both support charging with your own PV system.

Conclusion

Of course, both wallbox variants are ideally equipped for outdoor use. Nevertheless, there are some differences between the devices that you should definitely take into account when making your decision. Firstly, the respective protection class plays an important role when installing your own wallbox outdoors. While the charging station from myEnergi can withstand even the worst storms thanks to protection class IP65, the Heidelberg Wallbox is protected against heavy splashing water with IP54 and is therefore extremely robust. However, water jets should be avoided. However, this does not mean that the charging station is not suitable for outdoor use. Instead, it is advisable to place the Heidelberg Wallbox in a more sheltered location, for example under eaves. This way, it is protected from severe weather conditions, but can still withstand persistent rain in the long term. This also speaks in favor of the wallboxes from myEnergi and Heidelberg: both alternatives are excellently protected against unauthorized access - the Zappi V2 by PIN, the Home Eco can be retrofitted and is then protected against unauthorized access by key. Because outdoor parking often does not allow wall mounting, here is the good news: The e-mobilio store offers a variety of robust stands that allow the installation of the private charging station without wall mounting.

The charging station from myEnergi allows you to conveniently control charging processes from indoors using an app. Although the Heidelberg Wallbox does not have this feature, it can cover greater distances between the charging station and electric car thanks to the longer 7.5 m charging cable.
